Dear colleagues,
For yet another year, the Organizing Committee is pleased to introduce the 28th edition of the International Symposium on Controversies in Psychiatry, which will focus on “The Challenge of Prevention”. This year’s meeting will take place on September 16 and 17, 2021.
The COVID-19 crisis that we are suffering has forced us to restrict long journeys and maintain physical distancing, making it difficult to hold this type of meetings in a face-to-face format. For this reason, in the 27th edition we already converted the scientific meeting into a totally virtual format, which allowed the exchange of knowledge to which we are accustomed while protecting the safety, health and well-being of all participants. For this new edition we have planned a mixed virtual and face-to-face meeting, but we will not hesitate to make it totally virtual if the health situation recommends it. In one way or another, we are confident that Controversies in Psychiatry will continue to be a reference meeting for the community of mental health professionals all around the world.
Each year the symposium deals with a single topic relevant to Mental Health, a topic for which the organizing/scientific committee chooses a series of speakers from among the world’s leading experts on the subject. Each of them presents their views and experience, as well as the results of their research, completely independent of the pharmaceutical industry. Controversies is the only event of its kind in continental Europe and we believe that the continued success of audience over time validates its format and the proposed methodology.
The topic of Prevention in Mental Health is of great relevance, although it is seldom treated in a systematic way in scientific meetings. In this edition of Controversies we will review the different approaches that can be established for the prevention, at different levels, of stress, addictive, psychotic and affective disorders.
We look forward to your attendance and that we can finally meet again in Barcelona.
Yours sincerely,
Organizing Committee
