Saeed Farooq

Prof. Saeed Farooq, PhD; MCPS (Psych); FCPS (Psych).

Prof. Saeed Farooq, trained in psychiatry in Pakistan and UK. After completing higher training in UK in 1995, he returned to Pakistan and established an academic department of psychiatry which is well reputed for research on treatment of mental illness in developing countries. He has been examiner for the Fellowship examination of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan and the Manchester University in M Phil examination. He developed a Research Methodology and Medical Writing Workshop for the College of Physicians and Surgeons which later became a mandatory requirement of the Fellowship programme of the College. He has 80 publications in peer reviewed journals and chapters in books. He is editor of Journal of Pakistan Psychiatric Society (JPPS) and Associate Editor for BMC Health Service Research. He pioneered evidence based medicine in Pakistan by establishing first Cochrane Collaboration Site in the country. He developed an innovative approach for treatment of Schizophrenia in developing countries, termed as STOPS (Supervised Treatment for Schizophrenia in Outpatients). He developed a CPD module on how to work effectively through interpreters for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. He is a member of the WHO Working group on classification of Psychosis in the ICD -11.
