Promotion of the PABH President in the title of Academician

During the last Assembly of the International Academy of Science and Art in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IASABH) held in Sarajevo on 20th May 2023, Professor Dragan Babić, MD, PhD, President of the Psychiatric Association of Bosnia-Herzegovina (PABH) was promoted in the title of Academician, as the recognition of his continuous contribution to Psychiatry and science in general in our country. This academic promotion of Academician Professor Dragan Babić enriched further promotion and rise of importance and role of the PABH in the scientific and professional community outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.

Leadership and members of the Association sincerely congratulate to our President on earned title of Academician with strong believe in his further contribution to developing of the PABH and promotion of the continuous medical education of the mental health professionals in all generations.

Academician Professor Dragan Babić, MD, PhD, is neuropsychiatrist, subspecialist in social psychiatry, employed at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, currently on position of Head of the Department for Chronic Psychoses. Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Studies, Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Law at the University of Mostar, where holds the position of Head of several departments for Psychiatry and Psychology. He is former Vice-Dean for Science and International Collaboration (2013.-2021.). Editor in Chief of the electronic journal Health Bulletin of the Faculty of Health Studies since 2014, Editor in Chief of Papers-journal of the Croatian Society for Science and Art in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2021,  Guest Editor of the supplements of journal Psychiatria Danubina in 2017 and 2020.

Educated at the Universities of Tuzla and Mostar, and additionally trained in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. He completed numerous educations in the field of Psychiatry: psychotraumatology, addictions, suicidality, group psychoanalysis.

He is one of the most prolific scientists at the University of Mostar. He has published five books and written 12 more chapters in books by other authors as well as wrote recensions for several books. Invited speaker on numerous scientific conferences, symposia and congresses in the country and abroad. So far, he is author and co-author of over 200 professional and scientific papers published in domestic and international journals, cited 1507 times in Google Scholar (on May 23, 2023: H index: 17 and i10 index: 39). Principal investigator in several projects supported by the Federal Ministry of Science as well as investigator in many international projects. He is a mentor of 14 doctoral dissertations, over 80 master’s theses and over 300 final and graduate theses.

He is the President of the Psychiatric Association of Bosnia-Herzegovina (in the second term), President of the Organizing Committee of the International Symposium Mostar Psychiatric Saturday from 2003, President of the Organizing Committee for Bosnia and Herzegovina of the 23rd Danube Symposium (Mostar, 2008). He is a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Academician of the International Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is revarded by the University of Mostar for outstanding contribution to scientific development of the University with his excellence in the scientific, teaching and professional fields in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Revarded with Silver Plaque of the Red Cross of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 50 blood donations. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was involved as the medical doctor.

He was born in Živinice (Bosnia and Herzegovina) on June 10, 1958. Married, lives in Mostar with his wife, father of  two children and grandfather of two grandsons.
